Anyone who has seen 5-minute Bolshevik rollercoaster THE HEART OF THE WORLD or his recent feature THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD will know something of the warped and beautiful world of Guy Maddin. A native of Winnipeg in Canada, his work plays out a love-affair with the hidden corners of cinema, pastiching and twisting the techniques of 20s/30s melodrama, propaganda and pornography to create his own crazy dramas.

In tandem with filmficciones we are hijacking the Maddin tour-bus which has recently been circling the UK, and for one night only will be presenting a full programme of the director's shorts - including The Heart of the World and Odilon Redon (pictured above), in which a train-driver and his son compete for the affections of an aquatic nymph - as well as a rare chance to see his libidinous autobiographical piece COWARDS BEND THE KNEE, inspired by the hand-cranked peep-show films of early cinema. There will also be live musical entertainment courtesy of Birmingham-based sonic voyagers and devoted Maddin fans Pram.
