There are a few more in the gallery…

Before we pack our bags for Knitflicks, here are a couple of other knitting-related things that we’ve come across recently…
Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef (picture above from the Institute for Figuring) - on show at the Southbank in London until 17th August. Crocheting apparently enables you to create forms impossible in 3-D rendering, and the crafts corner of high mathematics is the place to be at the moment;
Knitting at the movies - if you can’t make it out of the house this weekend, Angel Hair’s exhaustive list may give you some ideas on films to rent;
Wool 100% - the debut feature by Japanese filmmaker Mai Tominaga, this tale of a feral girl who knits obsessively is perhaps a little too full-on for Compton Verney. The trailer is worth a look though;
And finally, myself and Mrs 7inch will be playing some records at the next gathering of Stitches and Hos in the Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath on Tuesday 29th July. Come and ask for some speed garage, I dare you.
Our final sneak preview from the Knitflicks programme, this one’s a computer animation by Finnish filmmaker Laura Neuvonen (Anima Vitae)…
In honour of our Knitflicks event at Compton Verney next month, here’s a little trailer (or animated flyer) by Kate Pemberton and Michael Johnston…
Kate (Endfile) and Mike (ZX Spectrum Orchestra) had already been talking about the affinities between knitting-machines and Sinclair Spectrums, so this was a chance to play with that a bit. It’s also a good opportunity to exploit Flickr’s new video option, which lets you upload ‘long photos’ (up to 90 seconds) at a resolution which youtube can only dream of.
Another knitting film for Friday afternoon… This here is a knitting machine made out of LEGO by the resourceful Thomas Johnson, whose site also features some other contraptions made with little bricks.

Compton Verney gallery in Warwickshire asked us to put together something filmy which will complement their Fabric of Myth exhibition, opening next month. We settled on a programme of knitting-related shorts and animation, to screen throughout the weekend of 19/20 July with free needles, wool and knitting tuition for those who’d like to have a go. More info soon, but in the meantime here’s a youtube clip of one of the films: a promo for ‘Les peaux de lièvres’ by Canadian duo Tricot Machine. The animation by Simon Laguanière was made using over 700 frames created on an electronic knitting machine.
With special thanks to David at Dare to Care records.
PS:: Those of a knitting/crocheting persuasion in the Birmingham area may be interested in Stitches and Hos, gathering at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath on Tuesday 27 May.
